The Value in Good Friends and Busy Days
It comes really into focus once you feel yourself falling. During the descent, the tree I grew shows all of a sudden underneath me and I hit all the branches on the way down.
I cultivated those branches. There's no option but to feel the slaps and the cuts, much like the day-to-day happenings biting at and pulling me.
The late bus, the really inconvenient call at work that forces a priority shift and adds even more stuff to the pile. The loads of laundry. The groceries. A sister stranded without a job and the complex equation of helping her without helping her. Settling of accounts and other financial checks to ensure a trip in the future. A toilet flush needing repair. A scale that tells me to exercise more. The friends receptive to pints and laughs inside an half-lit room, filled with the sound of jazz. Neuromancer. I want to read Neuromancer! And I have to finish The Golem and the Djinni first! Listen to Bill Burr... oh, but the list continues.
These calls for attention keep me level and ensure balance. It shifts the focal point to something more worthwhile and/or enjoyable and/or fun and/or productive. The blow dissipates as minor things get resolved, time passes and life flows forth, normally.
Sometimes we lose in one front, but the Big Fight rages strong. Gloves up, here I go.
