Venting Rebuttals and Learning from Them
rebut[ri-buht]
verb (used with object), rebutted, rebutting. 1.to refute by evidence or argument.
2.to oppose by contrary proof.
Rebuttal: No binding promises were made, but merely manifestations of lust and longing for companionship. These have been blown out of proportion.
Lesson: Either the sentence is accompanied with a disclaimer, or not proffered at all.
Rebuttal: I have been accused of brutality and senselessness, when I am merely sticking to my decisions, and living by them, regardless of the emotional cost for anyone.
Lesson: I still believe this to be the right path. To follow my gut. It's messy going, but it has to be followed through, consistently. Complacency, mercy, these are the instillers of false hope.
Rebuttal: My easy-going nature, my tendency to always listen before speaking, and my willingness to try new things seem to create a level of attraction that's often being misunderstood as bonding at a very deep, emotional level. This was never the case.
Lesson: Again, my behaviour must be tempered with cold spoons of warning of what I'm actually after. Even though this brings the whole experience down for everyone involved, it is actually better in the long run.
